13-year-old Va. boy uses parents' 3D printer to make masks the Boy is now donating

FALLS Chapel, Va (ABC7 / WJLA) – While out of school and a little tedious, Charles Randolf wants to work with his mother. Thank you.

“My mom has me on a super strict schedule. It’s not the best thing in the world but, two hours of homework every day, don’t enjoy that often, but you know,” said Randolph.

In addition, he has stayed up on current events and had an idea of helping his uncle and others in the midst of COVID-9 in his home in Falls Church.

“I saw in the news that high-risk patients, people with existing diseases like heart problems and asthma, I thought this would help him, " says Randolph.

In Atlanta Charles, sometimes named Charles, a great uncle, requires a heart transplant. He knows that the uncle of his mother might wear a mask. He also created one on the 3D printer of his father.

“My dad and mom signed me up for enrichment classes when I was younger.” 

And he learned 3D technology there. Charles graduated from the production of printer toy to a mask that he had created from a website for the public field.

“You use a slicer which takes the product that you got off Thingiverse and it turns it into code that the 3D printer can read. This is the first real, useful thing that I’ve made," adds Randolph. 

Charles Randolph then allows a difference in only 90 minutes, at the rate of a dollar a cap. Now Charles is looking for more, where he can donate.

Randolph says, “It may not be 100 percent of a filtration system but it works.”
